“But you write proper books too?”
For many years I felt cloaked with shame and embarrassment that I wrote the books I loved to read…contemporary romance. It’s not easy being laughed at or ridiculed by people who don’t even read romance.
And then one day, I decided I’d had enough. I love reading and writing romance, and was going to be out and proud. It’s still not easy. I still get scoffed at but there is less of it. Surprisingly, I get more people interested in what I write and what I do. Perhaps it’s because I’m now confident and happy in saying so?
Love this article on being a romance novelist – “You write what? In defence of romance” as it really resonated with me. Thanks to Amy T Matthews for writing such an insightful article!
